I think the guy at your local detail shop should stop smoking so much in his enclosed office. I think the fumes of laquer thinner are going to his head.

It all depends how aggressive you go. There is a difference between polishing with wool vs. a final polish. It also depends how much clearcoat you have on your paint and how much has already been taken off.

Obviously, the less you polish the better. I have only polished my truck ONCE since I bought it and it still looks great after careful washing and drying over the years.

I always heard that the rule of thumb was one or two light polishings a year and you should be in good shape for the next 5-7 years.

But then again, there are so many variables at play that it's tough to estimate.
