Default Phil..do you sell Flex plates...

I was wondering if you sell the plates...I want a couple extras..I want to machine one down to fit my 5.5 in pads..since I have over 50 of them....I believe it can be done with no harm...as long as you do not pass the solid ring on the plate just below the metal housing on the head...

And I am not interested in the Edge adapter when it comes out...I had to many problems with adapters failing and pads busting up with just a PC..so with Flex's power I would be very scared of some serious damage on a failure...

So Phil can you get plates...

Thanks

Al

Al you can mill down the red ones with no problems at all. I have done it , well one of the guys at work that is very talented with the milling machine has done it . The trick was he milled it down to the spot you are talking about and left the red velcro in tact and then I could take a razor and trim it down. Therefore there was no tearing of the velcro.

I'm getting ready to have him try it on the new bp when he gets back from vacation. Hopefully I'll see tomorrow if that can be done. There is a thread here that shows mine modified:

I have been using the Edge system on my Makita BO6040 which is just as powerful as the Flex if not more and orbits the same way and have not had any issues with pads or adapters failing. They also show very little signs of wear. The backing plates have been redesigned recently with this application in mind so providing you have not bought the pads years ago you will be fine and will be able to go as small as 4" pads on your Flex.

I am interested as well. I would love a backing plate that would allow me to use my 5.5 inch pads safely. The edge on the 5.5 backing plate is just to close to the edge wtih my 5.5 pads for my tastes

ok..I just brought the plate to a friend to look at...it can be machined to 4 1/2 inches with out any structual integrity problems...that would give you 1/2" of pad overlapping the plate...using a 5.5 " pad

If you look at the newer plate there a solid ring on the under side of the plate about 1/2 " wide..if it is machined to that point being the outside circumference..leaving the ring intact...
