step bars

Truck has a lot of red clay built up on the rims and step bars i am thinking about using some megs wheel brightner on them, will this stuff mess up paint if i get a little overspray on it when use it on the step bars?

Is megs my best choice for red clay i figure similiar to brake dust issues?
