Does anyone have any tricks to getting dust out of the instrument cluster area? The is in between the gauges and the plastic front covering.

It is driving me crazy!!

I thought the clusters were supposed to be sealed.

They are not especially well sealed. I replaced one clear lens on mine and it just snapped to the back side. On some cars they are not that hard to replace. The first time it took a while to figure out how all the plastic snaps work to get to it. Once I knew the steps, it takes like 2 minutes to take it off and 1 minute to put it back on.

That plastic may be either screwed in or snapped in or a combination of both. Either way, you should be able to remove it and it will just take some time to figure out how to remove it properly unless you have a service manual.

Its a general question, but the one on my nerves the most is an Audi RS4.

Thanks. I will see if I can find someone with a service manual...

I didn't think along the lines of removing the plastic.

On my Mercury there is a hole in the lens for the reset on the trip odometer, I use the compressed air in a can for cleaning computers. I sticks the nozzle through the hole, angle and aim, and give it a few blasts. Doesn't remove anything, just hides it.

If the Audi is anything like my Jetta the clear plastic bezel will be glued to the instrument cluster.

I've got what are probably cigarette ash/residue sitting inside my cluster from the DSPO but I'll just live with it because I don't want to end up purchasing an entire new cluster if I break the clear plastic. People do open them up to install the chrome trim rings around their gauges though. If you check around vwvortex there might be a thread for the Audi somewhere in the DIY/FAQ section showing what it entails.

PoppaJ does have a good idea with the compressed air though

Thanks for the ideas everyone. I had thought about the compressed air, but it doesn't look like there are any openings in the cluster.

I will try it out, though.
