Exclamation Help Wetsanding Boat

I have to wet sand a heavily oxidized boat. A polish simply will not remove the oxidation. The top half of the boat is white and the sides are red.

My first question is can i wet sand the red without it changing color just as i would for the white?

My next question is what is the proper way to wet sand, as i have never done this before, and what products and where can i get these products do need?

i appreciate all help!

Pictures would really help with this. If the paint is to oxidized, there might not be enough left after being wetsanded, so when you go to compound and then polish the wetsanding out you might burn through the paint.

i would say from my own experience on wetsanding a car (you don't necessarily have to follow) I use a soft backing pad rubber or foam.. to get at even pressure. on the sandpaper side, i don't know what's good for the paint of the boat. i don't know if boat and car paint or clear are the same. try asking the big companies like 3M. sorry not much of a help. but my experience was wetsanding a car.

so my advise- find a soft flexible backing pad for wetsanding for the sandpaper to wrap around to get an even pressure. and on wetsanding, let the sandpaper do the work..you don't have to apply a lot of pressure.
