LOL, that is quite funny...

If we were really cynical though, we would merely bring out a new improved formula under a different name, maybe in even more expensive packaging, and sell it for hundreds or thousands of dollars more. Why be saddled with the old name and old product when you can bring out your new wonderwax and claim it's two or three times as good. Then we could keep on selling the old formula as well!

The simple truth is product improvement. We have made a decision to have Supernatural as a wax at a certain price point and positioning within our range. We don't want to clutter our range with new SuperShine, SuperBling and SuperWow wax. When we brought out the plastic jar edition in the UK, it was a natural time for us to see if we could improve the formula as though many users loved v1 and were very happy, a few thought its durability was lacking. Now we have had 15 weeks of durability in testing and up to 5 months of durability subjectively from a user (with v1) but the market wanted more durability from the product. So after some headscratching and extra development, the market got v2. It is technically a better wax now. And it costs exactly the same as the old one. No price premium for progress. We believe you have to move with the times and we always strive to improve our products.

The nice thing is that we can now pass on some of the lessons we learnt in R&D and pass them on to other products in our range. We don't make a big deal of most product improvements we make as it gets too confusing to have everything being v1, v2, v3, v4. We have improved products already on the market and on resellers shelves, and resellers don't even know it. It's our little bonus to a customer. They think it is an OK product, they find out it is even better than expected. They will pay the same as for the first version of that wax.

It is almost embarrassing to say that on a recent wax test recently, 3 out of the 4 products tested were not current recipes that now leave our lab. The samples were about 6 months old but it shows you how much we do behind the scenes. If we want to make a lot of fuss about v1, v2, v3, v4 we could do a lot more. But we don't. Supernatural is Supernatural. If people want to reclassify it as v1 and v2 they can but next time around we may not even mention the improvements.

It would be a lot easier just to forget about product improvement and advancement. A lot cheaper for us and most people wouldn't notice, but hey, we just can't help ourselves

Great post! I fully agree with you and I respect your company that you even tell people that were two versions. You're right....most people wouldn't even notice a difference at all. You have nothing but respect from me.

Great review! And thanks to Dom for putting out a lot of good information for us, after much research I'm pleased to say that I'm looking forward to adding Supernatural as my top priority wax for my clients' cars!

I think it's important for a company to get out there and communicate with their customers to get feedback in order to improve on products, and Dom, you're out there on forums all the time, answering questions and asking questions, just all around being very helpful and honest. I think that's EXACTLY how it should be done, I'm extremely impressed! I love the new look of the supernatural lineup, the wooden pot is very unique and creative. Thanks again Dom for all the information!

Thank you for the kind comments Fox. People forget that I was a wax consumer myself and only became gamekeeper rather than poacher about 16 months ago. So I like to treat people and act how I would like to have been treated and wanted a manufacturer to act.

It's not that he just answers questions and participates in forum discussions. He also massages his scientists shoulders when he has them staying past midnight at work, he also sleeps on a cot in the lab, so when the scientist arrive back at work at 6 am, he can make them breakfast and keep the coffee pot going all day long. Basically he does so much behind the scene's that no one ever knows about.

The trips to the jungles to hand select the carnauba trees to be picked.. interviewing the individual bees to see if their worthy of consideration. Meeting the ships at the docks and personally hand unloading the Dodo cargo, so it won't get bruised in transit. Hand washing the jars before the big pour day. Then the nights he sits at the jars sides, watching and taking care of each individual jar, in case they call for attention. The crys at 3,4 in the morning that have to be answered...

Personally he has my respect.

I actually wouldn't mind knowing when updated wax versions are released. IMHO i was a little disappointed with the durability of the old version of SN. But after reading about better durability with SNV2 im now considering buying it again.

BTW, i saw on DW that new SN stick, when will that be released and how much? i guess better question is when will Ben be getting it?

LOL, that isn't even officially announced yet... we only previewed it yesterday and were happy enough with the response to launch it tomorrow... it will be on sale in the UK on the 29th September

As for new wax versions, we generally won't announce improvements unless forced to. This is simply because product improvement should be standard practice and the tenth news release that month claiming an improvement would wear thin with editors. The other reason is stock logistics... no reseller sells at the same rate and no reseller wants 'old' product. It is very difficult to launch a new formula unless it is a totally new product. That is why we announced SNv2... the plastic jar was unique to the formula so it was like a new product, and unsold stocks of SNv1 were very low as it tended to sell out quick. Also, we wanted to make a statement re improving the product.
