I'm a member of mustangforums and their is a thread over there about washing microfibers and one guy says

" Wet microfiber will scratch the paint or just about anything else you rub with it like a fine grit sand paper".
" If you want to see how much take a wet microfiber and rub it on a polished aluminum wheel and check out the scratches it leaves behind".


Also in the same thread. Different poster.
"Also, I never use a dry or damp mf on my paint. I always use detail spray when i'm using a mf on the paint. This could be part of the problem too... you are rubbing in water to your finish, not lubricated detailer".

Am i missing something here. Am i having a brain fart?? Or am I totally not understanding what they're saying.

I've used m/f to wash my car and wash my wheels. And as best as I can remember, they were wet. Hell, i've even done it with ONR! I even think i've used dry mf towels to take polish and wax off my car.

I hope I dont offend anyone by posting this. I'm just trying to understand what they're saying.

Maybe he's using low quality MFs, that will scratch the paint whether dry or wet.

Let's put it this way: water has no abbrasives in it, right? So if you have an MF that does not scratch when dry, how can it all of a sudden change to something that does scratch when wet?

I wouldn't listen to 90% of what they say around there. (not to discredit the people who actually might know what there talking about.)

A properly cleaned quality MF should not do any damage to the paint at all. As long as it is used properly (right amount of pressure) and in the right situations (removing wax, drying off the car....) I say it is some of the safest drying/multipurpose towels that can be used on cars period.

Thats what I was thinking too. I asked the guy- What kinda towels are you using. His reply "Same as everyone else".

Yeah right. Everyone uses the same towels. I've got a half dozen different brands of mf towels. They all look different to me.
Color, feel, edging, thickness and plushness.

Seriously Heath, they may know their sh!t about Mustangs but they sure don't know sh!t about detailing. It's kind of the other way around for some of us if you get what I mean, LoL. And yes I don't know much about Mustangs, haha.
