This is a discussion on Any Cigar smokers? within the Off topic forums, part of the General Forum category; Davidoff's are my absolute favorite. A bit of a pain to even find the label here. Dunhills are good too. ...

65-70 is the normal range, it just depends on how you like your cigars. A cigar stored at 70% will taste different than one stored at 60%. A few questions: Did you calibrate your hygrometer? If not a simple salt test will tell you how accurate it is. There are lots of descriptions on how to do this, here is one Stogie Tip: The Salt Calibration Test or Calibrating Hygrometers Another thing that helps keep the humidity stable is a full humidor. More cigars = less air so it's easier to get the humidity up and keep it stable. It took me a while to get my desktop humidor stable after I got it. I would consider getting rid of the sponge and get better humidification media. Check out The Puck-ifier™ & RH Beads™ by Cigarmony LLC and Cigarmony.com for more info and pricing. The RH beads are great. I use them in my overflow storage (a marine cooler with about 1.5 lbs of these beads) Hope this helps. Paul |

I've never tried the beads you posted but have tried alternate methods and didn't like the VERY faint taste that came with them... Do these beads have any faint smell taste?
I use distilled and have been very lucky with stable #'s |

No smell with the beads. I have them in my cabinet humidor as well as the marine cooler. I didn't like the foam, used too much water and it would end up leaking on my cigars. You need very little water to recharge the beads. If what you are using works go with it....I was looking for something that worked for me. |

Just asking because like detailing new cigar items are fun to try, just picking your brain... |

Glad you asked...it's been a while since I got them and forgot the most important thing.
The beads are an active media. They release and absorb water based on the RH in the humidor. So if you put too much water on the sponge inside "The Puck" they absorb water*, and as the humidity drops they release it. *You can't go dousing the beads in water or they will crack...just add a little Also, they are not prone to mold like the foam. Even with distilled water I still get a bit of mold on the foam after a while. |
