Exclamation The way you look at things part 2

this thread is somthing i hope that you guys will enjoy and agree this was written by a good friend he get a detaling bliss salute

Today’s world is an exciting place to be in. We’re entering the second half of this 2008 calendar year and there is some current and future buzz worth buzzing about. For example, advances in medicine, philosophy and technology makes tomorrow much more intriguing.

Having said that, there is the much stronger argument that said future has many upcoming and worsening issues. Examples being global warming, species extinction, environment deterioration, poverty, over-industrialization.

However, my issue doesn’t deal with people’s lives or the environment. Although, my issue is juvenile compared to war torn countries, it’s serious enough (for me any ways) to have its own blog entry.

The issue I have been alluding to is this period of bad music. It started whenever it started (I don’t even remember when it started, I wanna say October 2007). And its end is incumbent, unless some musical prodigy rises from the ashes from the wasteland that is music industry. My patience is eroding. Quickly.

I am getting fairly frustrated with the constant recycled sound that emerges from the airwaves. It’s always the same. It’s either:

A teen centralized synonymous band with a rocky-poppy sound with simple/bubbly lyrics. [Metro Station, Hedley, Panic At The Disco, the gawd awful Jonas Brothers]
The all male band that claims to be all rock and roll and tries to emulate the rockstar image. But what they do or don’t know, is that they are the same as the previous band just with more facial hair, more overdrive, more DUI’s. [Buckcherry, State of Shock, Faber Drive, Hinder].
The young, up and coming female artist whose sound derives from record labels that think this is what the public wants. The female artist uses lazy and poorly written songs she hasn’t even written herself. The female artist who insists on telling us about her via music. Using says like “This is who I am”, “… express myself through my music” [a la Rihanna, Miley Cyrus, Avril Lavigne, Ashlee Simpson, Fergie]
The rapper who either tells us his life is better than ours, how he makes lots of money, and how he gets lots of girls. Sometimes the rapper tells is how his life was worse then ours. ‘Was’ being the operative word. He tells us that he lived in the ghetto in the Bronx, the ghetto in Brooklyn, the ghetto in Compton, or the ghetto in the Durdy South. His songs include stories of popping thugz on the streets, his gang life, his drug dealing. Maybe all three. (Don’t get me wrong, I do like some Hip Hop/Rap, and I know this is what their lives entail(ed), but couldn’t they at least make the songs better?) [Sean Kingston, Lil' ________, Flo Rida]
The R&B singer coincidentally looks like Usher, who coincidentally looks like Michael Jackson. [Chris Brown, George, Colby O'Donis, Ne-Yo] Note: I have respect for Chris Brown and Ne-Yo. But not the other guys.
People who actually have talent, fairly good music, but don’t really have any variety. [Timbaland, Akon, T-Pain]
You see, usually by now I would’ve found some artist who blows my mind away and I’ll be listening to them for a large portion of the Summer. But so far there’s nothing really to mention. There are some select songs I enjoy right now, but nothing really stands out. My playlists are getting stale and I need something to re-engergize them.

So now, I play the waiting game. I try to remain patient for the superhero of music to save my sanity. Until then, I wish for a time machine/worm hole in the universe, so I can skip the painful part and go straight to the enlightened part.

Good stuff. I'm going to see the Foo Fighters on the 20th...VERY excited about this as I saw them open for Mike Watt back in 1996 and Pat Smear was still the lead guitarist.

Recently, I've been on a Journey kick, pretty much because I just found out that Arnel Pineda (yeah, where the hell have I been?) took over as lead singer.

I don't even listen to the radio anymore. It's still CDs or the sound of my engine and exhaust.

However, I'd be in a boy band in a heartbeat to make some quick $$$.

I pretty much go by the internet or specific satellite radio stations on checking out new artists. I am very much in to electronic based music (techno is a broad term used by the uneducated). I have been really into NIN since he is no longer resticted by a music label/company. Another band that has my attention is Jesu. they have a myspace pae as well. There are a lot of bands I like, but not having cable and not listening to regular FM keeps me from hearing too much BS these days.

I agree with the OP that music is on the decline. The music bizz needs a swift kick in the jacobs. The best music out there isn't released by the likes of major labels anymore.

Its bands no longer under contract and can put out as much as they want however they want. i.e. Radiohead and nine inch nails.

I have to agree there is quite a bit of junk out there right now and unfortunately it seems for the foreseeable future. For some reason that's the kind of music the kids want. Every beat and guitar riff is the same as every other song out.

The thing that utterly kills me though is American Idol. Granted, I have never actually sat and watched the show. To me it seems the only reason people go out and buy the records is because they were invested in getting their favorite cover singer a contract where the producers get 60% of their earnings for the next 10 or so years. It's a great marketing scheme don't get me wrong. But, I am of the opinion that if these people were really talented enough to be signed artists they would already have been signed.
