Default How about a master spreadsheet for car paint?

This struck me today when I was ONR'ing my car. How about a master spreadsheet or list showing various make / models / years paint softness / hardness (or how hard the clear is...whatever you want to call it). For example, Audi paint is notoriously rock hard, so it would rank, uh, well, hard. The Acuras I've worked on have all been fairly soft. Maybe somewhere between 3-5 groupings - soft, medium, hard. You could also add a soft-medium and medium hard. Or, better yet, put it on a 1-5 scale or something. Just a random thought that popped into my head today. I know it would help me as i work on a new make that I've never done before. Be a good reference point for what polish/pad/speed combo to start out with.

fwiw, paint hardness is Dependant on what assembly line the car is made on. They bid and compete against each other. the processes differ on each. There is no real accurate way to assess the hardness of paint or it is thickness.

LOL actually i think it is fairly accurate in as so far one can be accurate in anecdotal testing.

It's a good base point to start from. Just keep in mind that any chart like this is simply a layer of the total snapshot you need to choose the right polish, technique and pad combo.

I found Porsche paints to be soft and BMW to be Medium.

The newer Lexus is HARD.

Yes, this is just a rough outline, not perfect by any means.
