Default Durabile camera

So guys and gals, I was hoping to get some advice.

As of 15 mins ago it is official. On May 3 - May 18, I will be exploring Costa Rica and Nicaragua. Part of the time I will be on horse back, tractor..even a Unimog. So I am going to need a camera to take pictures of the amazing views, yet be durable. I was thinking about taking a Rebel XT in a very nice case, but I was hoping to get your inputs. Anyone know of anything easy to use, with a fast start up and durable?

The XT SLR is an incredible camera. The pics it take are incredible. Just mke sure since you are going to be on horsebck to spend the xtra 300 bucks to get a stablizing lens so you get no blur. XT SLR would definately be my choice...well it was my choice. Great camera

If you're traveling that far and using a DSLR, I'd recommend getting another body for backup. Or get a good P&S for a backup. In case something goes wrong with your camera, at least you'll have a backup to get the shot.

What i hate about the XT is the battery. I just wish the thing used AA's. I don't think where I am staying in Nicaragua has power....

Scott: I was thinking about that. XTi or maybe a D40x/D60... so many different choices!

Oooh sounds like afun trip there sneek, which part in Nicaragua are you going. That's my home town and I'm not expert on it but I have visited quite a few places, places that don't even have electricity. Yes, a bit sad but quite lovely places to visit.

As for Camera's, well I'm enjoying my XTi Rebel but I wonder if it would be more practical to take one of those point and shoot type of cameras and yes I would agree with you one that takes AA battiers or so..but that's just my opinion, I mean you wont get the quality as an XTi or a D40x/D60 but it would seem the most practical

I don't mind not having electricity, just kind of sucks that I might not be able to use a camera. I have a few Canon point and shoots, but since I will be back packing through Nicaragua I might not want to take too many things along.

This trip is pretty expensive, so I dont mind parting with some cash for a good camera, but I need something that won't break half way through.

I am not sure which parts of Nicaragua I am visiting, but I will only be there for 4 days. I can find out. I get all the details tomorrow afternoon.

Get the Canon and buy a few extra batteries! I love mine, but get the body only and buy a great lens to go with it.
