Recommendations for a 6" compound and polishing pads?

Just got a 6" DA polisher from HF. Yeah, I know, but the price was right and it really works well.

Anyway, I picked up a couple of cheap pads and I get through about half my wife's car and the foam rubber starts to pull away from the velcro backing and bits of the padding spray all over the car. I'm using Mother's compound and I'm using the compounding procedure from Autogeeks. I made sure I didn't use too much compound and I'm using a very light touch with the polisher.

Anyway, being new to detailing, I'd like to know if this is typical with pads or is it possible it's me and not the pads? I want to make sure I get a handle on this so when I move on to detailing my own car it will come out great. Thanks in advance.

The more aggressive the pad (yellow/compounding) the more wear and tear it will have in a shorter period of time. But still not all pads are the same quality. Phil @detailersdomain.com sells some really great pads. Good quality and price. I believe these are also buff n shine pads other retailers sell. Either way make sure you use a compound made for machine polishing. Some excellent companies are meguiars , sonax, hd, menzerna etc. just a couple of tips but there's much more to it then just polishes and pads.

Thanks for the advice and suggestions. I'll look into Phil's pads and report back.

Ok, I went over to detailersdomain and ordered a 5-pack of the Uber pads. I got 2 orange, 2 blue, and 1 green. I plan to take them for a spin (get it?) this weekend.

B&S makes the Uber line, CG hex logic and black optics MF pads and Griots pads. Those are the one's I am aware of.
